New Location and Resources for Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council at Northwest Michigan Works!
The Grand Traverse Area Literacy Council is expanding its reach to more people in the community wishing to improve their literacy skills. The Literacy Council will now be run in partnership with the Adult Education Learning Labs as a program of Northwest Michigan Works!. The joint efforts and resources of these organizations will be used toward improving literacy in the area.
The Literacy Council office will be open limited hours every week at the Traverse City Michigan Works! Center, 1209 South Garfield Avenue. Appointments can be made on request.
The Literacy Council and Adult Education staff will also be holding updated tutor training sessions for all current, past, and new volunteers. The first of these sessions will be held on Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Learning Lab at the Traverse City Michigan Works! Center. The session will include updated information on the Literacy Council, interactive workshops in tutoring content areas, and a complimentary lunch. The event will also serve as an open house at the new location. Additional training sessions will be held quarterly on Saturdays.
