Local Employers Recognized for New Apprenticeships

Four local employers with apprenticeship programs representing a total of six new occupations were recognized at a special U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship signing event May 22 in Traverse City. The event was facilitated by Northwest Michigan Works! at the Michigan Educators Apprenticeship and Training Association (MEATA) 2024 Spring Conference.
Habitat for Humanity signed apprenticeships for three new occupations: Customer Service Representative, Accounting Technician, and Residential Carpenter.
Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club in Harbor Springs signed an apprenticeship for Culinary.
Munson Healthcare signed an apprenticeship for Surgical Technician.
Phillips Lifestyles signed an apprenticeship for Fireplace Installer.
Registered apprenticeships are developed through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor and are a proven training method for employers to build a talent pipeline of highly skilled, educated employees. Registered apprenticeships are offered in over 1300 occupations and can be designed for any size or type of business. Northwest Michigan Works! provides technical assistance and administrative support for registered apprenticeships, including development and implementation guidance.
