Construction Trades Apprenticeship Program Available in Northern Michigan
A new apprenticeship program in northwest Michigan is designed to help fill the talent gap in the construction industry. The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) Registered Construction Trades Apprenticeship Program is open to employers and job seekers in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford counties. The apprenticeship program is being sponsored in the region by Northwest Michigan Works!
This one-year apprenticeship program provides apprentices with work-based learning and related technical instruction focused on entry-level construction positions. After completion of the apprenticeship program, apprentices will receive a national credential demonstrating proficiency as an entry-level carpenter.
Employers select apprentice participants from within their existing workforce or through the hiring of new employees. Northwest Michigan Works! can also assist in the recruitment of apprentice candidates through MiTalent.org, referrals, hiring events, and other resources. As the sponsor of the program, Northwest Michigan Works! provides employers with technical assistance and administrative support throughout the program, reducing the additional USDOL paperwork often associated with apprenticeships.
