Outdoor Recreation Economic Impact Study for Northwest MichiganBack to Publications Index
The 10-county region of northwest Michigan provides an incredible landscape of outdoor recreation and natural areas for locals and visitors to enjoy. The region’s water resources are one of its biggest attractions, from boating on Lake Michigan to fishing in its many rivers, streams, and ponds. Trails (both motorized and non-motorized), skiing, and events also drive outdoor recreation activity in the area.
Collectively, these outdoor recreation opportunities are a significant driver for our regional economy. Until now, it has been difficult to quantify just how big a driver the outdoor economy actually is. This study defines the sector, measures its impact, and identifies ways to strengthen our efforts to support local businesses that rely on the many assets our region has to offer.

Our Township greatly benefits from Network Northwest's experience, depth of knowledge and understanding. Because they work with so many diverse communities in our ten-county region they understand the local land-use issues and are already working on solutions by the time we realize we need some help.
