FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 16, 2024

BELLAIRE, MI – Antrim County will continue to accept applications until all Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC) requirements are filled, but it is expected for appointments to the MMPC to be made at the Antrim County Board of Commissioners second meeting in January 2025. The committee will help guide the development of a new Materials Management Plan that the County will be developing with assistance from Networks Northwest.

At the beginning of 2024, the State of Michigan called for an update to County Materials Management Plans, formerly known as Solid Waste Plans. Current Solid Waste Plans focus on disposal capacities, while the updated Materials Management Plans will focus on sustainable materials management, such as recycling and composting, instead of primarily disposal.

The new MMPC will be composed of eleven required members who are involved with materials management or are elected officials in Antrim County; the state’s requirements are listed below. MMPC meetings will be open to the public, follow the Open Meetings Act, and may be recorded for note keeping and review. The Antrim County Board of Commissioners will appoint the committee members and approve the Materials Management Plan.

Anyone interested in serving on the MMPC is encouraged to submit an application which can be found at bit.ly/AntrimMMPC. Further information on Materials Management Plans can be found at bit.ly/MMPguide.
